As summer draws to a close, former US President Barack Obama has shared his 2024 summer playlist, and it’s a nod to his eclectic musical taste. Among the 44 tracks that have defined his season are standout summer songs by Filipino American artists H.E.R. and Saweetie.
“With summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that I’ve been listening to lately,” Obama captioned his post on Instagram. “And it wouldn’t be my playlist if it didn’t include an eclectic mix. I hope you find something new to listen to!”

Alongside H.E.R. and Saweetie, the playlist features a variety of artists, including electropop sensation Charli XCX. Her track “365” from the album “Brat,” which has become synonymous with the “brat summer” trend on social media, makes an appearance. Pop star Billie Eilish also graces the list with her song “Chihiro,” and hip-hop artist Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby” is included as well.
The playlist is rounded out with classics from 2Pac and The Rolling Stones.

His reading list includes “James” by Percival Everett, “There’s Always This Year: On Basketball and Ascension” by Hanif Abdurraqib, “Everyone Who is Gone Here: The United States, Central America, and the Making of a Crisis” by Jonathan Blitzer, “Reading Genesis” by Marilynne Robinson and “Headshot” by Rita Bullwinkel, among others.
In 2023, Patricia Evangelista’s “Some People Need Killing” secured a spot among Obama’s favorite books for 2023. The book explores the harrowing narratives of the drug war in the Philippines during Rodrigo Duterte’s presidency (2016-2022).
